Public Housing

You and your family may be eligible for Section 8 rent subsidies, or you might qualify for New York City Housing Authority apartments, which are open to working families and others who qualify for below-market rents.

New York City Housing Authority
For information about whether you and your family are eligible for Section 8 rent subsidies, a government program for low-income New Yorkers, call the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). Warning: you could be on the waiting list for years. You also might qualify for New York City Housing Authority apartments, which are open to working families and others who qualify for below-market rents. Call, write or walk in to your borough applications office. These offices provide information on eligibility, applications, and the status of pending applications.
