“Combine the disastrous track record of privatizing meters in other cities and the Administration’s inadequate oversight of similar projects, and business owners have every reason to be concerned. We need to adhere to the maxim: First, do no harm. We are talking about a public good that small businesses, especially in the outer boroughs, depend on for deliveries and customers. While the City has pledged it will retain control of meter prices, it has been silent on whether a private system will cost more than the one we have now—as has been the case in other cities. The Administration’s plan simply carries too many risks for our struggling businesses.”
