Public Advocate Gotbaum Statement on City Island Fire
Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum said, “My heart goes out to the survivors of this morning’s fire and their families. I applaud Ladder 53 for responding so quickly and courageously. Without them, the consequences of this devastating fire could have been far worse. The city must reverse course on its decision to close several firehouses overnight in a few weeks, including Ladder 53. Public safety has to be this city's top priority and every neighborhood is entitled to the fastest possible response time in the event of a fire.
We applaud the heroism of New York’s firefighters and hope they are fully and properly funded in order to protect all New Yorkers."
